Putting up your Christmas tree and lights was fun, but the fun stops, and stress kicks in when it's time to take them down. Storing holiday decorations can easily go from full-blown fun to frustrating. However, Our REALTORS® have compiled five simple and practical tips to help you correctly store your holiday decorations.

• Buy an Ornament Chest for Your Christmas Ornaments
  An ornament chest is the best way to store your Christmas tree decorations and ornaments since it contains several layers that allow you to categorize each item. These layers offer easy access to the ornaments when needed.
  
  Before putting your decorations in, consider placing a cloth on the chest to prevent the movement of the ornaments. You can also use padding or tissue paper to prevent the decorations from brushing against the chest surface and scratching.
  
  
• Get a Box for Artificial Christmas Trees
  If you bought your artificial Christmas tree during the holidays, the highest chances are that the tree came packed in a box. Since the box is already a correct fit for your tree, you can use it to store the tree.
  
  When packing the tree, you will be using opposite steps as you did when unpacking it. Bundle up each branch and ensure the tree remains straight as you pack it in. Alternatively, you can use ceiling hooks to hang your tree in the garage.
  
  
• Storing Ceramic Houses and Figurines
  Undoubtedly festive ceramic houses and figurines add a gorgeous display during the holidays. However, they can be challenging to pack. Similar to ornaments, they are fragile and are sometimes attached to lights. Therefore, packing them needs you to pay attention to detail to avoid damage or breakage.
  
  Ceramic houses, figurines, and other glass ornaments should be handled and stored as fragile items. Get bubble wraps, carefully wrap them in, and keep them in a box. Seal the box tightly and if possible, remember to label it as fragile and store the box on other bulky boxes.
  
  
• Ensure Your Lights Are Tangle Free
  Christmas lights can be hard to store since they are long and contain little garlands. No matter how carefully you roll them up, they will end up tangled. When storing them, you should ensure they are tangle-free to prevent interfering with the wiring or making ends. You can use delivery boxes to keep your lights.
  
  Cut your box or cardboard into rectangular shapes. Hang the rectangular pieces and wind your lights around the craps. Otherwise, you can use water bottles as storage for beaded garlands. You can also try using a pill organizer to store any spare light bulbs you have.
  
  
• Storing Wrapping Paper and Other Supplies
  Did you know that those garment bags you use to store wreaths can have a different use? Use a garment bag to hang up your wrapping paper and other supplies. Besides making them easy to access, they will remain dust-free during the year. 
  
  When it comes to storing supplies like ribbons and tapes, you can use a shoebox to keep everything organized and in one location. A shoe box makes it easy to color organize ribbons and notice when the tape supply runs low.

  On Saturday, December 11th, lace up your shoes and put on your most festive holiday costume to participate in the annual Jingle Bell Run. The race takes place at Hofstra University in the Nassau County community of Hempstead, and 100% of the proceeds go toward the Arthritis Foundation and its goal of fighting arthritis. It's a fun, festive 5K that helps support a great cause.

Cold winter weather combined with holiday distractions typically makes this the slowest time of the year for the housing market. However, current market conditions point to this winter's "slow" season being super hot! 

Our REALTORS® have been busy helping buyers who are anxious to find the perfect Nassau County homes for sale while interest rates are low. Other factors, like pent-up demand and low inventory, have made this a great time to put your home on the market. Here's a closer look at the reasons why this holiday season may be the best time to list your home.

1. Low Housing Inventory
   In September of 2020, the total inventory of homes hit a record low of just 2.7 months of supply. At the same time, sales of existing homes were up 9.4%. Projections show that if sales continue at this rate, there's a possibility we could actually run out of homes for sale. 
   
   While this might not be great news for buyers, it makes now a very attractive time to put your home on the market.
   
   
2. Pent-Up Demand 
   Spring is usually the best time to list your home since that's when buyer demand spikes. However, in 2020, spring marked the beginning of pandemic lock-downs that caused the real estate market to grind to a halt. Now that things are starting to open back up, buyers are eager to jump back into their home search.
   
   
3. A Need to Upsize 
   The COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot about the way we live. Many people are working and schooling at home. Almost everyone is spending more of their free time at home as well. This has resulted in a large group of buyers who are fed up with their current spaces and ready to make a move.
   
   Each day, we talk to buyers who are looking for Suffolk County homes for sale with features like large back yards and extra space for a home office. 

4. Low Interest Rates
   Mortgage interest rates also recently hit the 12th record low of the year. This puts them at the lowest they've been in over 50 years! Many buyers who realize they can save tens of thousands of dollars over the lifetime of their mortgage by buying now are out on the prowl for a suitable home.
   
   
5. Bidding Wars 
   All of these factors have combined to create the best seller's market we've experienced in quite some time. Not only are many sellers getting top dollar for their homes, but bidding wars sometimes result in offers climbing well above the asking price. In fact, according to Realtor.com, in September of 2020, the median home price was up 11.1% compared to the previous year. The price per square foot was also up by 13.9% year-over-year.
   
   
6. Delayed Economic Consequences 
   It's possible that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will cause a sharp decline in the economy. However, it's unlikely that this will impact the real estate market at least for a few months. If you've been thinking about selling, doing it now before more uncertainty strikes again could be your best bet.

   The annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival is a New York City tradition that stretches back to the 1870s. This loosely-formed parade is different than what you'd expect from a traditional NYC parade. Instead of fancy floats, here you'll find "paraders" marching down the streets dressed in all kinds of themed costumes and Easter bonnets. There are also always plenty of costumed pets.
   
   The parade begins at 10 am and continues until around 4 pm on Easter Sunday. The route goes right past St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is one of the best viewing spots. Since this is an informal event, you might even want to don your best bonnet and join in on the parade!

4. Easter Kid's Disco and Egg Hunt: Doha Nightclub | 38-34, 31st Street, Long Island City, New York 11101
   Perfect for the little ones and their parents, the Easter Kid's Disco and Egg Hunt at Doha nightclub is an Egg-citing good time! From 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 20th, your kids will get to meet the Easter Bunny while enjoying plenty of music and dancing, face painting, a magic show, and, of course, tons of candy! There will also be a balloon egg hunt and a toy raffle. 

5. Spring Fun Hunt at Wantagh Park:  Wantagh Park Children's Playground | 1 King Rd, Wantagh, NY 11793
   On Sunday, April 14th, the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Spring Fun Hunt at Wantagh Park. Bring your little ones to meet the Easter Bunny and search for over 4,000 hidden eggs. There will also be treats, raffles, and more. This popular community event is always a hit!

   Aura Light and Sound sponsors a Long Island New Year's Eve Party with a twist: It's a singles mingle night that might have you meeting that special someone. The mingling part of the evening runs from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the East Meadow. From there, the dance party kicks off! Mingling requires a reservation; the rest is open to the public until 12 midnight.
   
   
3. Three Village Inn, 150 Main Street, Stony Brook
   Famous in the local area, Three Village Inn will be hosting a sumptuous dinner with a special menu just in time to ring in the new year. Delectable entree options include roasted prime rib, roasted loin of venison, seared duck breast, and vegetarian lasagna.    If you want to ring in the New Year right, the Bellport Country Club has a New Year's Eve Gala that will get you started in style. The gala has just about everything you could want. Long Island Pajama Program

Now through December 1, help us bring joy to the children in our communities by bringing unused pajamas and books to your local Coach Realtors office. The Pajama Program has a simple mission: Good Nights Are Good Days. The program was founded by Genevieve Piturro, who discovered during visits to local shelters that the children didn't have pajamas or books to enjoy before bed. The charity has been growing ever since, with Pajama Program chapters located in every state across the country.

The catchy slogan of the Pajama Program speaks to the genuine need for children to enjoy a healthy night's sleep, and to have the energy, comfort, and confidence to approach the next day. Imagine being a child, not knowing what pajamas are, and not having a story to read before going to bed? Sleeping in a shelter, with little in the way of bedtime comfort or personal space, can make having the energy to get through school each day a real challenge.

From humble beginnings with a bag of new pajamas and children's books, the Pajama Program continues its mission to bring a good night's sleep to children throughout the country. The program is supported by the hard work of volunteers, many of whom have already devoted their professional lives to working with children.

Help Support the Pajama Program

The Pajama Program also relies on local organizations across the country, like Coach Realtors, to set up pajama and book drives for children. We're proud to play our part in the process, and we'll be accepting donations at our offices from now through December 1, 2018.
