6 Destinations for Craft Beer on Long Island

Craft Beer Week - Long Island - Coach Realtors

There's no better time to sample a new local brew than National American Craft Beer Week. That's why our REALTORS® have put together a list of our favorite breweries in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

  1. Oyster Bay Brewing Company — 36 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay, NY 11771
In the past, Oyster Bay Brewing Company has been recognized as the best craft beer brewery on Long Island, and it's easy to see why. This amazing brewery has tons of tasty selections, with their famous honey ale and Barn Rocker session ale topping the list. They take great pride in Long Island's nautical history and are dedicated to producing the highest quality beer available. Their wonderful selection also includes a summer brew, pumpkin ale, hard seltzers, and more.

  2. Barrage Brewing Company — 32 Allen Blvd. Unit E, Farmingdale, NY 11735
The Barrage Brewing Company has perhaps the most unique history in all of Long Island. What started with just two taps in a family room has transformed into over two dozen beers. They continue to test recipes with hops, yeasts, and other ingredients to create more varieties. Some of the best include a porter made with cappuccino and tiramisu milk, salted caramel and fudge porter, and their infamous brown ale known as the Yada Yada Yada.

  3. Lost Farmer Brewing Company — 63 E. 2nd St. A, Mineola, NY 11501
Locals just can't decide whether they prefer the Lost Farmer Brewing Company's delicious beer, tasty pizzas, or steaming hot Bavarian pretzels. Oh, who are we kidding? Of course, it's the beer! Not only that, but the place is dripping with '80s and '90s music that will keep everyone entertained. There's only one large table inside if you have a big group, but there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for friends and family.

  4. Blue Point Brewing Company — 225 W. Main St., Patchogue, NY 11772
This unique brewing company has developed a cult following thanks to their amazing selection of tasty craft beers that feature local ingredients such as seaweed, oysters, and beach plums. Many locals and visitors swing by the Blue Point Brewing Company to try their flagship beer known as the Toasted Lager, the proud winner of two World Beer Cup medals. And for the past few years, customers have enjoyed their new facility down the street that includes a restaurant and has a 60,000-barrel capacity.

  5. Montauk Brewing Co. — 62 S. Erie Ave., Montauk NY 11954
Take a quick jaunt to the local beaches during the summer, and you'll be sure to see people guzzling down the signature blue cans of Montauk Summer Ale. Although the Montauk Brewing Company hasn't been around as long as others on this list, it's quickly become one of the favorites of many locals and travelers. Their taproom may be small, but you'll find a relaxing outdoor patio and picnic tables that project the area's mellow vibe.

  6. Sand City Brewing Company — 60 Main St., Northport, NY 11768

Try a burger and its beer recommendation paired with truffle fries or sweet potato fries and a side of the restaurant's marshmallow sauce.

A haunted corn trail is also available for daytime or scarier nighttime walks, which feature "ghouls."

    2. Hank's Pumpkintown – 240 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill, NY 11976
The traditional corn maze is taken up a notch at Hank's Pumpkintown, which has interactive activities like a farm scene investigation game and finger foods along the way. And you may want to plan to spend several hours at Hank's, since there's plenty of other activities, including a 70-foot jump pad, 50-foot tube slide, and farm fun like pig races and calf milking.

    3. Stakey's Pumpkin Farm – 270 West Lane, Aquebogue, NY 11931
Pit your wits against the twists and turns of a 3-acre corn maze at Stakey's Pumpkin Farm, but make sure to pick up your Corn Maze Trivia game before you start the puzzle. National Doughnut Day falls on Friday, June 5th, this year and our REALTORS® are ready to dive into a box of delicious doughnuts. Whether you spell it "doughnut" or "donut", you do not want to miss out on tasty treats from these Long Island bakeries.

4 Days of Entertainment at Montauk Music Festival

MMF kicks off on Thursday, May 16th with an opening party at The Montauk Yacht Club from 7 p.m. to midnight. For the next three days, visitors will be able to choose from a variety of free concerts at over 40 different venues throughout the city.

On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., there will also be open-air concerts at the Montauk Lighthouse. Grab a blanket, some chairs, and your family and friends, and plan to spend the day there. There will be food, soda, and alcoholic beverages for sale as well as a variety of interesting vendors including a pop-up store for Rudy's Custom & Vintage Guitars. You'll also find a variety of workshops and exhibitions at the Ocean's Institute located at the foot of the lighthouse.

    "Ask the Experts" Event

If you're an aspiring musician or are interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look into the music industry, you won't want to miss the "Ask the Experts" event on Friday, May 17th. It will be held at the Lighthouse from noon until 5 p.m. Last year's event included yoga, one-on-one mentoring sessions with the artists, an industry panel, a group listening session, and a wellness workshop. When the 2019 schedule is released, it will be updated on the MMF Ask the Experts page

    Getting to MMF

Depending on where you're coming from, your best transportation options may be the Hampton Jitney, Long Island Railroad, or the Hampton Hopper free shuttles. The Montauk Yacht Club is located at 32 Star Island Road, and the Montauk Lighthouse is located at 2000 Montauk Highway.

Although the open-air concerts are free, those going to the outdoor concerts will have to pay for museum admission. The full admission price goes towards supporting the lighthouse, and your ticket also gives you the opportunity to tour the museum and climb to the top of the 200-year-old lighthouse.

Long Island Easter Events for Your Family

    Long Island Easter Events
Spring will be here before you know it, and that means warmer weather, blooming flowers, and, of course, the Easter Bunny! One of the things our real estate agents love about living in Long Island is that there are always so many family-friendly things to do, and celebrating Easter is no exception. Here's a rundown of some of the area's most popular Easter attractions.

    1. Long Island City Annual Egg Hunt and Festival: Gantry Park | 4-09 47th Rd, Long Island City, NY 10007
Head out to Gantry Park on Saturday, April 20th for the Long Island City Annual Egg Hunt and Festival. This event runs from 10 am until noon and features three separate Easter egg hunts to ensure that kids of all ages can have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Although the event is free, tickets are required and won't be sold that day, so make sure you go online and complete your registration!
    1. Easter Kids Party Cruise: Skyport Marina | 2430 FDR Drive, New York, NY 10010
Kids and parents will both enjoy the Easter Kids Party Cruise hosted by the Easter Bunny himself! With six different cruise times over Easter weekend, you'll have plenty of opportunities to catch this not-to-be-missed event.

Enjoy two stories of music and family fun featuring face painting, clowns, balloons, dancing, and a magic show. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door if they're still available. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase.
    1. Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival: 5th Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets
The annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival is a New York City tradition that stretches back to the 1870s. This loosely-formed parade is different than what you'd expect from a traditional NYC parade. Instead of fancy floats, here you'll find "paraders" marching down the streets dressed in all kinds of themed costumes and Easter bonnets. There are also always plenty of costumed pets.

The parade begins at 10 am and continues until around 4 pm on Easter Sunday. The route goes right past St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is one of the best viewing spots. Since this is an informal event, you might even want to don your best bonnet and join in on the parade!

6 Italian Restaurants on Long Island

    Celebrate National Fettuccine Alfredo Day

    Long Island Italian Restaurants

Alfredo di Lelio's wife Ines was in the throes of perinatal pain, refusing to eat. She had no appetite until her beloved Alfredo, way back in 1908, mixed up some fresh pasta, cheese, and butter. Thursday, February 7 is National Fettuccine Alfredo Day, to offer thanks to Alfredo (and Ines, his muse) for his tasty invention. Our REALTORS® offer these six Italian restaurants to celebrate this delicious holiday.

    1. La Nonna Bella, 660 Franklin Avenue, Garden City
Along the way to sniffing out good real estate bargains on Garden City homes for sale, you may be tempted by the delicious aromas emanating from Erica and Lino's La Nonna Bella. A mix of classic Italian dishes (from Bari, the Puglia region, and all over the peninsula) and new culinary trends, "The Beautiful Grandmother" feeds you, and feeds you, and feeds you. You may not always find Fettuccine all'Alfredo on every menu, but you will always find something amazing to enjoy.

    2. Calogero's, 919 Franklin Avenue, Garden City
Ines di Lilio did not live by fettuccine alone. Italy features some 350 different pasta shapes, after all; experience some of them at Calogero's, like the pan-seared scallops in herbed butter sauce with crispy gnocchi (pasta dumplings) and roasted brussels sprouts. Calogero's also offers gluten-free penne or whole wheat penne for many of its dishes.

    3. Antonino's, 997 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset
Visiting Manhasset homes for sale with your friendly, local real estate agent can certainly work up an appetite. Whether you need to dine to break bread and narrow your choices in homes, or you want to dine to celebrate a great find, Antonino's is an excellent place to park for lunch or dinner.

In case you worried that no Long Island restaurant actually offered February's famous fettuccine, we offer Antonino's menu, with two Fettuccine Alfredo options: $12.95 for a single serving, or $36.95 for a family of three to four (or two extremely hungry people, or one ... you get the idea).

    4. Cipollini Trattoria and Bar, 2110 Northern Boulevard, Suite C, Manhasset
Cipollini is one of several restaurants ably managed by Poll Restaurants. Expand your palette for Italian foods with Cipollini's lunch and dinner menu, featuring such temptations as Capellini ai Frutti di Mare (angel-hair pasta with fresh-caught seafood), Rigatoni alla Nonna (a different grandmother from Erica's and Lino's), and Pizza Robiola (with truffle oil).

    5. San Remo Ristorante Italiano, 328 Sunrise Highway, Rockville Centre
If, after a day of open houses at Rockville Centre homes for sale, you feel the need to recharge, stop off at San Remo Ristorante Italiano. This restaurant's impressive menu and long wine list are only the beginning.

With all due respect to the immortal Alfredo, remember that Italians love to innovate with great ingredients. Try San Remo's own fettuccine dish, Fettuccini Alla Selva. It is a mouth-watering delight of handcrafted fettuccine noodles with Portobello, shitake and champignon mushrooms in truffle oil and garlic.

    6. 3 Brothers of Rockville Centre, at 285 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre
We end our tour with another Fettuccine Alfredo offering, at 3 Brothers of Rockville Centre. Whether you book for February 7 or any other day to celebrate great pasta, 3 Brothers offers you hearty traditional Italian fare. Going beyond, though, 3 Brothers also offers delicious vegan recipes. Most items can be ordered with whole wheat or gluten-free pasta.

Whatever your appetite, please remember our experienced real estate agents eagerly wait to serve you. Contact us today to see how Coach REALTORS® can make every evening in your new Long Island home a buona notte

Long Island: Best Places for Whale Watching

    Long Island Whale Watching
As beautiful as they are graceful, whales are some of Long Island's most famous residents. In addition to answering questions about Long Island real estate, our real estate agents are frequently asked about when, where, and how to see our whales. The whales make the area their home from early July and often stay well into September. This means that there are plenty of opportunities for your family to head out on the water to get up close and personal with these creatures.

    1. Coastal Research & Education Society of Long Island (CRESLI)
CRESLI operates one- and two-day tours around Montauk from July through Labor Day. They boast an impressive 92% success rate in finding whales and their Viking Fleet is among the best in the region. In addition to the Humpbacks, Finbacks, and Minke whales, you will see plenty of sea turtles, birds, and dolphins frolicking in the surf.

    2. American Princess Fleet
Operating out of Riis Landing, Rockaway in Queens, the American Princess Fleet offers tours from early May through September. The fleet has served the New York region for nearly a decade and their four-hour adventure cruises are highly regarded. They frequently find everything from Gannets flying overhead to schools of fish looking for their next meal.

    3. The Starlight Fleet
Starlight, star bright, we want to see a whale tonight! If you say that to yourself the night before your cruise, there is a good chance your wish will come true with The Starlight Fleet. The company takes great pride in offering some of the most educational trips around, and each tour is led by a marine biologist. This means that you can learn anything and everything you have ever wanted to know about some of the most magnificent creatures in the ocean. Best of all, if you don't see any whales on your trip, they often offer free second trips so that you don't leave Long Island disappointed.

    4. Cape May Whale Watcher
Cape May is a popular location for whales to swim about. They love the calm waters and plentiful food within the area. This makes it a great place to spot fins and blowholes passing through the water on a tour with Cape May Whale Watcher. Every now and then whales fluke, humpbacks breach, and bottlenose dolphins swim around the boat trying to get a closer look at the people trying to get a closer look at them.

    5. Frances Fleet
Pilot whales, Finbacks, False Killers, Humpbacks, and Minkes are just some of the things Frances Fleet will take you to see. They have a stellar success rate spotting whales on tours running from the end of June through September 1.

    6. Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research

    Long Island Landscape: Penn Station

    Long Island Penn Station
As a busy, thriving metropolis, one of the most important aspects of New York City and its surrounding areas is the local metro systems. Taxis, buses, subways, and trains - NYC has them all. Our real estate agents recommend that anyone living in or interested in moving to the Long Island area be well-acquainted with the various metro services NYC has to offer. These services include the main intercity railroad station in NYC, Penn Station.

    So...What is Penn Station?

For residents and potential future residents of Long Island, Pennsylvania Station - or Penn Station, as most know it - stands as one of the critical transportation locations with which to become familiar. Penn Station represents the busiest transportation hub in the entirety of the Western Hemisphere.

With 21 railway tracks fed by seven tunnels and three concourses for travel, Penn Station is one of the go-to options for both intercity and interstate travel. There are individual concourses for Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road (often abbreviated to LIRR), and New Jersey Transit services. Penn Station also connects New York to Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, and several intermediate points.

In 2017, Penn Station opened its West End Concourse as well, allowing passengers to enter the station and board their trains using the historic James A. Farley Post Office on 8th Avenue. This is part of a larger plan, overseen by New York Governor Cuomo, to modernize and renovate Penn Station - a change that would be greatly appreciated by modern commuters.

    Penn Station Tips

With more than 650,000 daily commuters flowing in and out of Penn Station, it's important to know a few things about the station. For one, the station is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The general consensus on the best way to reach the station is to take the closest subway or bus - avoid driving or taking a cab (but then, most NYC natives do that already!).

If you need to grab a bite to eat while you're at the station, top recommendations seem to be that the Shake Shack is the best place to grab some grub inside Penn Station. There's also The Pennsy, a thriving food hall on the corner outside the station, as well as Rose's Pizza at Penn Plaza.

Our best tip is to take the time to stop by Penn Station as soon as possible. Familiarizing yourself with the rails, you might be using may save you some time (and confusion) on down the line! Of course, Penn Station offers maps throughout its three concourses and plenty of signage to point the way. Aside from rubbing shoulders with the other commuters, you shouldn't have too many problems figuring out where you need to go when the time comes.

New York City stands as one of the largest, thriving metropolitan areas in the world - a crossroads for people from all walks of life, and the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world. For those of us drawn to the hustle and bustle of urban life, NYC stands as the best representative of city life.

Gantry Plaza State Park - a Midtown Manhattan Oasis

    Gantry Plaza - Long Island
There's nothing like New York City excitement. NYC has 24/7 art, culture, and entertainment, but sometimes you just need a moment of peace. Our real estate agents recommend Gantry Plaza State Park. It's a city oasis in Long Island City that's close enough for you to enjoy a moment of peace and get right back to the action.

    About Gantry Plaza State Park

Gantry Plaza State Park is a peaceful green space that's perfect for a mid-city escape. The 12-acre park curves along the banks of the East River in Long Island City, Queens. Since its opening in 1998, the developers have transformed the park in stages to include activities and facilities for everyone.

Gantry Park offers traditional park amenities in a city setting. You'll find spaces for picnicking, organized sports, evening concerts and more. You can follow the curved steps down to the waterfront plaza. There you can sit quietly and look out over the river to a panoramic New York City skyline view. If you bring your fishing gear, you can claim a spot along one of four piers and cast your line into the river.

    A Historic Industrial Past

The park's location was once an abandoned dockyard and industrial site. Instead of tossing aside its past, Gantry Plaza State Park honors its once-thriving industrial roots. Two refurbished gantries give the park its name and a historical focal point. The structures were built in 1925 to help dock workers unload goods from railway cars and load them onto New Jersey-bound barges.

    Gantry Plaza - Pepsi-Cola Sign
The bright red, four-story Pepsi-Cola neon sign is a national landmark and an essential element of Gantry Park's personality. The original sign was placed on top of the company's bottling plant in 1940. After decades of transitions and deterioration, Pepsi reproduced the sign in 1993. Despite the reproduction sign's young age, the Landmarks Preservation Commission gave it landmark status.

The Pepsi-Cola sign and the gantries are unmistakable waterfront landmarks. Together, they make Gantry Park stand out when viewed from either side of the river.

    Outdoor Fun & Recreation

Gantry Park is a great location for families that want a park with more than a fabulous view. There's pier fishing, Adirondack chairs for lounging, and picnic tables for casual outdoor dining. The playgrounds provide child-friendly fun, and the park's playing fields are available for organized sports.

    Special Events

Gantry Plaza State Park hosts a schedule of events and concerts. Visit the New York Parks website for information on Fishing Fridays, Live at Gantries, and other upcoming events.

    Park Fees

As with most New York State Parks, Gantry Plaza State Park visitors must pay a vehicle access fee. If you have an Empire Pass card, you qualify for entrance to Gantry Park, other New York State Parks, and State Department of Environmental Conservation venues.

When you schedule a group picnic, you must pay a fee based on the number in the group. You must apply for a permit to conduct a wedding photo shoot or other photo or video production. Teams must apply for a permit to use park playfields.

Long Island Living: Coney Island and Luna Park

Long Island Living Coney Island and Luna Park
Living on Long Island certainly has its share of perks. Aside from its array of stylish and beautiful homes, Long Island offers a variety of activities for your entire family to enjoy. While finding the perfect Long Island home for you is our priority at Coach REALTORS®, we also want you to discover all that the area has to offer. For a fun-filled day, our REALTORS® leave your cares behind and head out to Coney Island and Luna Park where adventure awaits in this iconic amusement venue which was inspired by the original 1903 park.

Coney Island and Luna Park: A New Take on Classic Fun

Coney Island is legendary, in part because of its history as the place to go for a day of fun, food, and thrills. With the original Luna Park being one of three amusement parks established in the early twentieth century on Coney Island, its newer namesake embodies all the excitement of years gone by with modern touches and attractions. Although the original park was devastated by fire in 1944, visitors will find that today's Luna Park and Coney Island are reminiscent of its glorious past. The Parachute Jump ride--once nearly everyone's favorite--is no longer in service, but the attraction still stands, now covered in thousands of LED lights. The new Thunderbolt coaster pays homage to the classic wooden coaster that served up thrills to park guests for decades, and visitors of all ages will delight in riding the beautifully restored B & B Carousell.

Ride, Play and Enjoy the Day

For guests who are looking for over-the-top thrills, Luna Park makes the grade with rides like the Coney Island Cyclone, Zenobio, and the Sling Shot. Feel the wind in your face as you take a ride on the Steeplechase, another of the park's classic thrill rides with ties to its past, and get your adrenaline pumping as you climb aboard the Coney Clipper. If less intense attractions are more your taste, rides like the Circus Coaster and Lynn's Trapeze are sure to please. Younger riders will love the Mermaid Parade and Speed Boat rides. At Luna Park, you'll also find plenty of midway type games that bring back the nostalgia of a summer carnival. Try your luck at one or all, and bring back a fun prize as a souvenir.

    Great Food and Priceless Memories

All the excitement you'll find at Coney Island's Luna Park might cause you to work up an appetite. You'll find plenty of mouthwatering treats throughout the park from savory and satisfying to refreshingly sweet. Enjoy delicious seafood offerings at Place to Beach, and don't miss the original Feltman's of Coney Island for the ultimate hot dog experience. Cool down with a creamy scoop from Coney's Cones or indulge with a treat from Fried Delights. You'll make so many great memories when you spend the day at Luna Park, and Thunderbolt Retail captures them in photos that you can take with you. Purchase souvenirs and trinkets at the Cyclone Shop and Last Stop Coney Island to remember your day.

Coach REALTORS® - Your Long Island Real Estate Professionals

Treat yourself and your family to a day of fun that you'll long remember. Coney Island and Luna Park are sure to become a favorite destination on Long Island. Sagamore Hill | President Theodore Roosevelt Oyster Bay Home in Long Island

Long Island Oyster Bay Sagamore Hill

Some people move to Oyster Bay for the quiet. Some move here to be near the seashore. And others for the history. In fact, historic homes for sale in Oyster Bay are popular.  And often disappear from the local housing market as quickly as they enter. However, one historic home sure to remain an icon in the Oyster Bay community is Sagamore Hill, the former home of Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States.

Sagamore Hill is a national treasure waiting to be explored and enjoyed. Congress established it as the Sagamore National Historic Site to preserve the house as a part of the National Park Service.  It was soon after listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The house is a must-see for Nassau County residents and visitors and is a source of pride for the community.

Our REALTORS® are excited to tell you about the history of Sagamore Hill and Oyster Bay and can't wait to show you homes for sale in Long Island.

    History Unfolds at Sagamore Hill

    Oyster Bay Sagamore Hill

When you step onto the grounds of Sagamore Hill, it's easy to leave your everyday life behind as history begins to unfold around you. The home itself is the centerpiece of the estate, having been the residence of Theodore Roosevelt from 1885 until the former President's death in 1919. While he was in office, Roosevelt's "Summer White House" was the site of several peace talks and visits from foreign dignitaries.

An Inside Look at Roosevelt's Legacy

Touring Sagamore Hill gives you a glimpse into the life of Theodore Roosevelt, the acclaimed political figure and the charismatic man. You'll also find a collection of thousands of books and a diverse assortment of art acquired by Roosevelt throughout the home. The Queen Anne style home still has original furnishings and decor in its 23 rooms and underwent a meticulous renovation a few short years ago.
