Celebrate New Year's Eve at Home - Coach Realtors

People often think of New Year's Eve as a reason to go out and party. But you might rather have a quiet celebration at home if you have kids. There's nothing wrong with this, and celebrating New Year's at home with family can be very enjoyable. In honor of 2022, our REALTORS® are excited to share some ideas for a memorable New Year's house party below.

  • Have Your Own Balloon Drop
Instead of watching a ball drop on television, consider organizing your own! The easiest way to do this is with a balloon. Visit a party store, and let your kids pick out the coolest balloons they can find. Give each family member their own balloon. Let them decorate their balloons with markers. When midnight is near, have everyone hold their balloons above their head and drop them when the clock strikes 12.

If you have little kids and are worried they won't make it till midnight, try having your balloon drop at noon instead.

  • Try a New Treat Every Hour
Here's another fun way to count down to the New Year. Buy several different treats or snacks at the store. You can buy an assortment of family favorites or several snacks you've never tried before. Every hour on the hour, open a different snack and let everyone in the family try it.

If your kids are a little older, you can let them rate the snacks against each other. At the end of the night, the snack that gets the most votes wins.

  • Set Up a Photo Booth
This is a great way to evoke some giggles and create new memories. Set up a photo booth in your living room, complete with a collection of silly hats, sunglasses, flashy jewelry, and other fun costume apparel. You and your kids can take turns dressing up, making silly faces, and capturing goofy pictures to share with family and friends.

  • Create a Time Capsule
Think back on all the cool things you did in 2022. Wouldn't it be nice to reflect on them again a few years from now? Creating a time capsule is the perfect way to do this.

Have each family member gather a couple of meaningful items from 2022. Also, have each family member write a note to their future self. Gather these things up, and put them in a shoe box. You can even decorate the shoe box if desired. Make a plan to re-open the time capsule on New Year's Eve 5 or 10 years from now.

  • Countdown Around the World
If your kids are a little older, this can be an exciting and educational way to celebrate. Keep track of when the New Year comes to various countries around the world. When the clock strikes 12 in each country, share some facts about that country. Or, celebrate like the people in that country.

For example, for New Year's in Spain, celebrate by following along with a Flamenco dance together. When it's New Year's in England, celebrate by popping poppers—an English tradition. Have your kids research New Year's celebrations in various countries ahead of time so they can help you plan these mini-celebrations.

Allow yourself to be inspired by the ideas above, and enjoy a lovely New Year's Eve at home with your family. If you're still looking at Suffolk County homes for sale or Nassau County homes for sale, we welcome you to contact us. We'll help you find the perfect house for the New Year.
