• January
  During cold winter weather, concentrate on staying warm, checking for water damage and pests, and cleaning up your landscape. Freezing temperatures keep your heater running nonstop, so you need to change your furnace and filters.
  
  
• February
  February is an excellent time to catch up on indoor maintenance and repairs. Stay inside and tackle plumbing repairs and household maintenance. Refinish the floors, steam clean carpets, and give the walls a fresh coat of paint.
  
  
• March
  "Spring forward" means it's time to change your clocks and replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Next, head outside to inspect your roof for damage, powerwash your siding, shutters, windows, and driveway, and plant some colorful perennials.
  
  
• April
  When April arrives, it's time to open up the windows and start your spring cleaning. Sunshine, fresh air, and warm temperatures mean turning off your furnace, putting a HEPA filter in your air conditioner, and scheduling routine maintenance on your AC/HVAC system and swimming pool system.
  
  
• May
  After April showers end, May is a good time to check your drainage and sprinkler systems for leaks and standing water. Make time to clean out your gutters and downspouts, trim the trees and shrubs, and add new plants and fresh mulch to your garden.
  
  
• June
  In June, your landscape and garden are in full bloom, so pests can invade your landscape and home. Watch for mosquitoes, wasps, unwanted rodents, and termites that can damage wood fencing, siding, and floors. If you notice problems, schedule professional pest maintenance.
  
  
• July
  July around Long Island is hot and humid, so make sure your HVAC system is cooling properly and keep an out for moisture and mold around your home. Check your bathroom seals, replace old grout, clean your faucets and showerheads, and check the salt levels in your water softener.
  
  
• August
  August is often too hot to enjoy the outdoors, so focus on deep cleaning indoors. Clean your carpets and draperies, wash heavy bed linens, clean the washer and dryer, clean out your fridge, and check your freezer operation.
  
  
• September
  When fall arrives, it's time to get prepared for cold weather. Schedule an HVAC checkup by a professional to make sure your heater or boiler is working properly. If you have a fireplace, call a chimney sweep to clean your chimney and check for safe airflow before you light a fire.
  
  
• October
  In the fall, you can find some good deals on building materials. Maybe it's time to replace those old kitchen cabinets and countertops or install new bathroom flooring. Also, button up your home's exterior because critters will be looking for a cozy, warm home.
  
  
• November
  "Fall back" means it's once again time to change your clocks and check the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. It's also time to schedule routine maintenance for your plumbing pipes, drains, and faucets. Wrap any exposed outdoor pipes to prevent freezing.
  
  
• December
  In December, inspect and clean outdoor light fixtures for safety, keep cold air out of the house by weather-stripping windows and doors, and check your attic insulation and ventilation to stay warm. Focus on energy-efficient products to reduce your heating and electric bills.
