Train for These Spring 2024 Road Races on Long Island
Running is a great way to exercise. You don't need a lot of equipment, and you get to spend time outside, in nature. Long Island has quite the running scene. Whether you're a competitive runner or someone new to the sport, some great races are scheduled this spring. Our REALTORS® know the area well, and they recommend checking out the following events.
- Run For Tomorrow's Hope 5K - 450 Franklin Ave., Garden City, New York 11530
This year's Run for Tomorrow's Hope 5K is scheduled for March 23 at 9 a.m. There is also a 1-mile fun run starting at 8:30 a.m. The race is hosted by St. Joseph School, and the course weaves through the surrounding neighborhoods.
Register before March 22, and the fee is only $30 per person. Proceeds benefit the Tomorrow's Hope Foundation, a group that supports student scholarships. Don't forget to look at some Garden City homes for sale while you run around. - Go for the Green 5K Run - 51 Lawrence Ave., Smithtown, NY 11787
Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at the Go for the Green 5K Run. The race starts at Smithtown Elementary School and should pass plenty of great Smithtown homes for sale. The gun will go off at 9:30 a.m. for the 5K and 9 a.m. for the 1-mile fun run. All abilities are welcome.
This year's race is sponsored by Winter Bros Waste Systems. The cost is $25 per person until March 11. Proceeds for the race go to benefit the Rotary Club of Smithtown. - Happily Running Shore2Shore - 91 E. Main St., Smithtown, NY 11787
If you're down for a longer run, consider Happily Running Shore2Shore. This point-to-point race travels the entire length of the Long Island Green Belt Trail. There are 25k, 50k, and 100k options.
This course is partially on pavement and partially on soft trails. There will be five aid stations along the course. Crews are encouraged, and pacers are allowed for the 100k only. This year's race is scheduled for April 13, 2024. See more details and register on the race website. Consider looking at some Smithtown homes for sale before or after the race. - Jovia Long Island Marathon - Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY
The Jovia Long Island Marathon is the event of the year for many Long Island distance runners. The marathon and half marathon are scheduled for May 5. There will be a 10k on May 4 and an expo on May 3.
This year, there will be a back check and aid stations every 2 miles along the course. Register online. The fee is $124 for the marathon, $109 for the half marathon, or $69 for the 10k. If you finish fast enough, you'll have time to look at some Nassau County homes for sale nearby. - Northport Downhill Mile - Laurel Avenue, Northport, New York 11768
Looking to run a super-fast mile? The Northport Downhill Mile is a lightning-fast race that starts at Laurel Ave. School. You'll run right through Northport Village and past some incredible Northport homes for sale before finishing on the waterfront.
This year's race is scheduled for June 1. The gun will go off at 9:00 a.m. Be prepared to absolutely fly in this race. The course record is 3:57 for men and 4:59 for women.
