Close to many of our Port Washington homes for sale, we always recommend visitors to the area tour the mansion and stroll the Sands Point Preserve to gain insight into the rich history of the famed "East Egg" as described in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

Heckscher State Park- Heckscher Parkway Field 1, East Islip, NY 11730
Cycle the 4.5-mile flat trail for a panoramic view of Great South Bay. Watch for the nests of ospreys, a sea hawk, that tower over the park campground, and over the trail near Field 7. This 1600-acre former 19th-century estate also shelters white-tail deer and a variety of other birds. The park, originally opposed by local residents, represented public official Robert Moses's toughest fight to ensure the availability of public lands on Long Island. East Islip homes for sale are conveniently located near the trail and other amenities of Heckscher.
